Lack of respect by children. Who should be corrected?

Having seen children abuse and try to put up a fight between one another on the street. Or, display some characters that brings about the not-too-good facial expression, we need to ask who is to be corrected.

At first, there should be an understanding that, for every Effect there is always a Cause. Before we solve a problem, we need to identify the causes rather than tackling the effect. A clear example is this; if there is a running tap which pours heavily on the ground and makes it flooded, it is insanity for people to concentrate on cleaning the flooded ground (Effect), instead of putting off the tap (Cause). Because, if this tap is turned off, there will no longer be flood and people wouldn’t have to keep cleaning the ground.

How do you expect your children to behave when they always see and hear their parents talk bad about a neighbor or a friend? While growing up, these kids are unable to truly decipher what is right from that which is wrong. At that point, their brain records whatsoever they see their parents do because they look up to you as their first mentor.

Children do not lack respect .Whatever character (good or bad) a child exhibits is to a high extent that which he/she has seen displayed by their parents. During my younger brother’s school party, I went to grace the event and also encourage him during his dance and drama performances. There was this particular young girl of about 9 years old that was also engaged in different presentations. I noticed how respected and matured she behaved and how excellently she did in her presentations. It was just too brilliant of her.  Finally, the winner of the competition was announced – the 9 years old girl came first. The Chairman of the occasion added by saying “I will like to know the mother of this child, please if you are here, kindly come out. When the mother came out, the Chairman said “I don’t know you or your daughter before, but, because of the way your daughter behaved in the last 7 hours that I watched her, I was taken aback by her level of maturity and I want to congratulate you for raising her up well” – children become most of what their parents create of them.

Being a parent isn’t only about giving birth to children, feeding them and paying their fees while you watch them grow big before your very own eyes. Your most important role is to train and shape their minds positively.

For instance if Mother A fails to teach her children respect, when her children displays disrespect to another Mother B on the road, Mother B will tag it as children of nowadays lack respect. In the same way, if that same Mother B fails to teach her own children respect, when they go outside and exhibit disrespectful attitudes towards Mother A, she will say children of nowadays lack respect– it goes round a circle.

If you mislead your children when they are young, when they grow older – you may become their worst enemy. So, parents should sit up in carrying out their responsibility. Because, if you fail to do so, you raise children that will constitute problems in the society.

Stay Positive.
