I don’t know, is it okay for him to ask me back for the money?

should a girl refund her boyfriend the money she borrowed from him?

Please Somtochukwu advise me. There is this issue that arises between my boyfriend and I. But, it is not usually a quarrel just an argument such that we are trying to know who is right and who is wrong. So, I decided to ask you so as to know what you think about it. Sometimes, I usually borrow money from my boyfriend whenever I want to buy something or settle a debt and I don’t have enough. I just run to him and ask him for assistance. If he has, he never fails to lend me the money.

Now, after some time, he comes to ask me for repayment. Isn’t he meant to leave the money for me since we are in a relationship? Am I meant to refund the money?

First, there is a difference between someone giving/ dashing from borrowing you money. When money is lent, it is expected to be repaid. Answering your first question “isn’t he meant to leave the money for me since we are in a relationship”? No, he is not expected to leave the money for you because you are both in a relationship. Being in a relationship doesn’t mean that you both have lost your understanding about how things should be done properly.  Infact, he shouldn’t even remind you to repay him. Instead, you should be the one drawing his attention that you realize you owe him some amount of money, no matter how small it is.

If he sees your sincerity and finds out that you are unable to gather the money in order to pay back, he might even tell you to forget about refunding him. Issues like this shouldn’t be a problem at all.

Nevertheless, this should not only apply to your boyfriend but to everyone you might have an encounter with. If you go outside and lend money from people, you should always have it at the back of your mind the source you intend to raise money from in order to repay them.
