Omah Lay Will Be The Next Wizkid, Not Rema, Not Fireboy

Omah Lay is sensational. The youngster from PH City is a generational talent, and he keeps on proving that fact.

First surfacing in March 2020, Omah Lay blew up during the global pandemic and lockdown, with his critically acclaimed EP, “Get Layd.”

The EP which had five tracks is one of the most successful debut projects ever, and has more streams than a lot of debut albums, in fact.

The EP also houses the biggest Nigerian song on the AudioMack platform, “Bad Influence,” a song that is one of the hottests of 2020.

Omah Lay has showed signs of promise from the very beginning. First his music melted hearts, and then people fell in love with his brand.

His kind of music is simple, actually. It’s the new wave of Afrobeats. The mid-tempo Afrobeats sound Wizkid has been championing since the mid 2010s.

The likes of Rema and Joeboy have also done things along that line, a year before the emergence of Omah Lay.

When Omah Lay came though, things changed. The guy was a breath of fresh air to the oversaturated Afro market. His own sound, though, not unlike Wizkid‘s own, was refreshing.

The way he jumps on afro instrumentals, and delivers with his sultry vocals, is everything.

Lyrically, Omah Lay is not lacking too. He’s got a good pen game and all of his songs have concepts backed with a flexible control of words.

Within a year, Omah Lay put out two No. 1 EP’s, “Get Layd” and “What Have We Done.” WHWD which was released towards the end of year had his big hit, “Godly” and his collaboration with American rapper, 6lack.

He’s also collaborated with Ajebo Hustlers and they released the hit, “Pronto” last year too.

Now Omah Lay is back with a new single, “Understand” and this one is an instant hit, no doubt about that.

This song, which might be the first single off a forthcoming project is also an Afrobeats song, and on it he continues the heartbreak journey he started on “Get Layd.”

The same things that made “Bad Influence” and “Confession” fan favorites are the same elements that Omah Lay has now fused together to make the new single, “Understand.” How can it not be a hit?

Omah Lay‘s future is definitely bright. And if there’s anybody that’ll ever be able to attain that WizKid status in this industry, it’s gotta be Omah Lay. He’s got the vibe, he’s got the sound and he’s got the heat!
