How SARS threw me off three-storey building, broke my spine, trader tells Lagos panel

A trader, Ndukwe Ekekwe, Tuesday told the Lagos State Judicial Panel of enquiry and restitution for victims of SARS related abuses relived the harrowing details of how he broke his spine in 2018, when policemen threw him off a three-storey shopping complex at Alaba Market.

Ndukwe, 34, said he was unlawfully arrested on February 16, taken to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) head office at Ikeja, stripped naked and brutalised in a torture chamber.

He told the panel that the operatives went back with him the next day to his three shops at Alaba, broke the doors open with hammers and looted his phone accessories.

When he raised the alarm, he was thrown off the building.

He was never told the reason for his arrest.

Now paraplegic, following his severed spinal cord, Ndukwe was brought to the panel from Badagry by his aged mother, Mrs. Nnena. His father, he said, is bedridden with stroke.

He is seeking justice at the panel.
