What is Migration , types and examples?

Ebube

Migration is the movement of people into and out of a country over a period of time.

Types of Migration

Migration is sub-divided into two and they are as follows:

  1. Immigration (I)
  2. Emigration (E)

What is Immigration?

This is a process whereby people come into a country from other countries. Increase in immigration increases the population.

For example, if someone from Ghana comes into Nigeria to live or settle, then the person is an Immigrant.

What is Emigration?

This is a process whereby people go out of a country to settle in other countries either permanently or on a temporary basis.

For example, if you leave Nigeria and go to a far away country or even a nearby country such as Ghana in order to live there or relocate, then you are an Emigrant.
