The cost and non-reusuable nature of medical masks are high and not quite affordable to the average Nigerian. Indigenous citizens of the country have tried for quite some time and the government has played their parts in the distribution of palliatives to the people.

Various federal, state and local government officials have gone to their communities to distribute face masks as their contribution towards helping others during this pandemic period.

The average amount of face-masks owned by each individual is about 3-per-person and this is considered hygienic because of how it is being maintained. Mask being a protective device used to shield oneself during this period against the infectious disease and the sustainable means to avoid contamination/spread among the Nigerian people. Even when medical masks stand a better chance to avoid the spread, the fabric masks are being sewn and readily available for purchase as little of a cost of N100 – N300 while medical masks prices were as high as N1000 in some communities in the Eastern part of the country due to the high demand pursuing the few available medical face-masks.

To this, it is good news that the creativity of Nigerians to sew these masks has not only empowered tailors during this period, but it has also helped them find means of economic livelihood to carter for themselves and their family.
