Do you need to spend a lot of money on Jewelries and Clothes?
There is an erroneous belief on the fact that, the more expensive the clothes you put on, the more beautiful or classy you look. I just wanted to point out something here; you do not need to buy expensive clothes in order to look pretty.
As Somtochukwu, I wear really cheap clothes (in short, I am metamorphosing into trying to be putting on only made in Nigeria attires), not because I don’t have money to buy more expensive ones, but because I understand the kind of life I want for myself and I also understand what beauty is and that’s the essence why I write this – to plant this positive idea in the minds of the young people; both girls and boys.
I get to notice that even in these cheap clothes I put on, there are so many people who come to me and say “WOW! I love the way you dress”. The people who tell me these admire me and that’s how you would also be admired if you stick to what to want. Then, I drew a conclusion that it is not how expensive a cloth may seem to be, but how confident, matured and comfortable the person who wears it is.
On the issue of jewelries, right from time I am not even that kind of person; I didn’t just like anything that would stress me or take my time unnecessarily. Imagine me staying in the mirror for about 30 minutes’ applying make-up or buying a costly silver/golden jewelry other than cheap traditional beads.
I just wanted to define what beauty truly is, I believe that we are all beautiful, our skin is what makes us pretty. The only complements we should put on are our traditional clothing’s, beads and some sketches as decorations on our skin.
Putting on traditional attires and beads not only makes you beautiful but goes a long way in stabilizing the economy of Nigeria. If we as a people want a better Nigeria which I think we all want, then we have to buy Nigeria. By buying Nigeria, I mean buying Nigerian beads (like the one in my picture above), cotton materials, Aso Oke (it is produced very well in the western part of the country. I.e. Osun,Ogun,etc), etc
I know that you may also think the same way I do, and I am here to encourage you. You get to ask yourself questions like what will my friends say if they see me do this? The answer is “They will take you do way you are”. So, I urge you to take and make that positive decision today.
