Again, Gunmen Invade Peremabiri, Bayelsa Community
The Bayelsa State Police Command has confirmed another armed attack on Peremabiri community in the Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of the state.
The spokesman for the command, Mr Asinim Butswat, said the coastal community was invaded on Sunday and the residence of one Marcus Richard was burnt down by the assailants.
Recall that some gunmen had in the early hours on Christmas Day stormed Peremabiri in two speed boats and attacked the residence of a former militant leader, Eris Paul, alias Ogunboss, razing down parts of the building.
But it was gathered that in the latest invasion, the arsonists operated in five speed boats shooting indiscriminately even as community people were said to have fleed into the bush.
Butswat said the motive of the attackers had yet to be ascertained.
He said, “Preliminary investigations revealed that on January 3, 2021 around 7am, gunmen invaded Peremabiri, a riverine community in the Southern Ijaw Local Government Area.
“The motive for the attack is unknown at the moment; however the residence of one Marcus Richard was set ablaze.
“The command has despatched reinforcement of police marine and detectives from State Criminal Investigation Department to beef up security in the area. Investigation into the incident is ongoing.”
