A ratio is the relationship which one quantity bears to another with regard to magnitude. Thus, the relationship of N5 to N7 may be expressed in the form 5 : 7, expressed as 5 is to 7.

A ratio can only exist between quantities of the same kind; we cab however, obtain a ratio between 12 kobo and N2 by reducing naira to kobo.
