Is Lyta A Lazy Artist? – Three Years, No EP, No Album
First things first, I love LYTA and I’ve always been a fan of his music.
The young singer came to the limelight after he was unveiled under Olamide‘s YBNL Nation imprint in 2018. He was one of the most promising artists that year; he even got a Next Rated nomination at The Headies in 2019.
The appeal has always been his music, it wasn’t PR or hype or lifestyle; it was simply the music. He was doing absolutely good music.
His first single, “Time” which featured Olamide, didn’t need too much promotion to become a smash. It was an instant hit.
With that momentum, Lyta could have easily gone on to be as big as Rema, or Fireboy. Heck, even bigger. But along the way, he slipped.
For a while, he didn’t drop any music, then he had issues with his former label, all events leading to his publicized YBNL exit in 2019.
That same year, he signed a deal with a certain Doro Music and made the hit “Monalisa,” produced by Killertunes (who was at the time also working with Wizkid.) “Monalisa” got a Davido remix and quickly became his biggest hit, commercially.
Normally, with that buzz around him, the trend was to drop an EP and put his name out there. But what was Lyta doing? He’ll drop one song and go into hibernation.
Later that year, Naira Marley came to the rescue and signed the guy to his Marlian Music outfit. To be honest, Lyta’s career has been a lot better since he joined Naira Marley‘s label, but what he’s doing is simply not enough.
Zinoleesky has dropped an EP, Mohbad has dropped an EP and is still dropping hits consistently, but where is LYTA?
It’s either one of two things, at this point. Either he’s just a lazy artist (like Wandecoal) or he has some other business he’s focusing on.
What do you think?
